Drowned by Self Deprivation

Project type

Acrylic Portrait

Date

March 2019

Location

San Francisco

This painting was created to highlight the intensity of words, life, and internal thoughts. The person in the painting is being pushed down, and drowned by the deprecating words above them. Some of these words come from their internal thoughts and how they feel about themselves. Some of these words come from how they’ve been perceived throughout their life, whether from family, peers, or strangers.
The weight of these words, and how they hang above their head, has become so crushing that it begins to drown in them. Forcing them to forget who they once were, or wanting to kill the parts of themselves that these words stuck to. Who do you see in the reflective water? Do you see yourself?
